Thank you all so very much for all your votes. We had a total of 175 voters cast over 11,000 votes total! Amazing!
I had a really great time running my blog last year when it was in full swing. Unfortunately, its popularity eventually caused me to spend ALL my free time (10+ hours a week) manually typing links into the directory…not fun and not easy! Now that the new Blog Directory is automatic, I can more clearly focus on what made all of us love Bestest Blog in the first place (plus I got a full time partner in Kevin to help!).
[side note: since Kevin is helping out, that means this blog has multiple authors and is therefore disqualified for PayPerPost, another gripe I know a few of you had way back when…]
So, I hope you all will add Bestest Blog back to your daily rounds, maybe subscribe to it via RSS and join Kevin and I as we present you with daily picks, starting tomorrow, for:
Best Blogof the Day (daily at 8AM),
Funniest Videoof the Day (10AM),
Funniest Pictureof the Day (12 noon),
Funniest Jokeof the Day (2PM), and
Most Fun Gameof the Day (4PM)
…all based on your votes and nominations (ok, I vote and nominate a bunch myself too!) Voting has already commenced, and there are already between 40 and 100 nominations in each category. Joining the Blog Directory will get you in the running for “Best Blogof the Day!”
One last thing before the results. I just want to publicly commend all the blogs and bloggers that were even considered for this award. In many cases a few votes of 1 or 5 could have meant a difference of 5-10 spots in the ranking. Also, even if you are something like #90/105 in the results here today…remember that you are really like #90/3000, taking into account all the blogs that didn’t even make it this far! So today I did two seemingly small things that marked two firsts for me:
1. I created a Favicon for use with Blankest Blank Bestest Blog. (If you can’t see it clear your cache)(Bobby also made one for Fechr too!)
2. I created custom submit/flag buttons on the voting page.
Nothing huge in the world of web design but definitely marked accomplishments in my personal book. I’m glad to be able to cross two more things off the long list of to dos. I must say I’ve learned a great deal since starting this endeavor, in the world of css, html and php, the last being the least familiar. I’m hoping to learn more php in the near future, with Bobby’s help of course, as he’s the php wizard. Ok time for bed. Hope you enjoy the changes as much as I do!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop a line and let you know I’ve been hard at work on some site design over at Blankest Blank! We now have a logo (courtesy of my father-in-law, who I thank for doing the work for free 
) Please drop a line and let me know what you think of it and the rest of the site design. The logo is currently up on the Main page and the Voting pages and I’ll be working all afternoon to get it up and running on the rest of the pages. I’ve got a lot of big plans for the site to make it a bit more user friendly. I’ve been doing little things every day (most of you probably haven’t even noticed, which is good as it means I haven’t interrupted the traffic flow too much) but my schedule has been crazily hectic. Anyway, be sure to drop by Blankest Blank and let me know your thoughts! As always, all the best until the next.

Well, today I coded out what will be the last REGULAR category over at Blankest Blank and that is the Funniest Image category. That’s makes 5 regular categories (ones that will ALWAYS appear on the site) together with Best Blog, Funniest Joke, Funniest Video, and Most Fun Game. We will absolutely be having other categories that pop up from time to time (like best movie of 2007, for example).
So here’s how it’s going to work. Next Tuesday (August 7th), we will be hosting the results to the Bestest Blog of the Year contest here at Bestest Blog. Starting the very next day, and continuing every day from then on, we’ll be posting the “Best Blogof the Day,” “Funniest Videoof the Day,” etc.! All based off your nominations and votes! I don’t know about you guys, but Kevin and I can’t wait!!

This was a long time coming, coming that I had on the back burner but finally got to today. The Blankest Blank Blog Directory is now conveniently sorted by category. I had the foresight to ask new directory entries to pick a category, and it took about an hour of coding to have them automatically sorted but it was totally worth it. On my old site, I used to have to manually sort every single new blog by hand, but now an hour of coding will have them automatically sorted forever! Pretty sweet deal if you ask me…

One of the things I hated most about my old blogspot domain was having this huge directory of blogs, but not being able to do anything with them, because I couldn’t enter them into any sort of database for easy access. I had to type all of them out by hand (ok, I copied and pasted, but still!)
So, now that I’ve moved over, I can do anything I want! I’ve started a new free link exchange blog directory and this one has a twist. Going with the “Blankest Blank” theme (where the directory is hosted) and coincidently the name of this blog…all blogs in the directory have the form “The Blankest Blog”. For example, some of the entries we’ve had have been The Sweetest Blog, The Most Ambitious Blog, and The Best Computer Generated Blog. The actual name of the blog can be seen by hovering over the link, FYI.
I’ve also gone and wrote a script that include a random 10 of these blogs over in the sidebar here at Bestest Blog. So, every time you visit (or even just reload a page), there’s 10 new blogs for you to check out. I’ve encouraged people to be as creative as they could with their naming, and a lot of them have. A collection of 5 random blogs also appears on the Blankest Blank home page.
So, if you’re not already in the blog directory, join now! It’s a free link (in the directory itself) and random exposure in two other places. I hope you all approve of this awesome addition!!

Well, today we’re at the halfway point of voting for the Bestest Blog of the Year, so I thought I’d share some statistics on how very successful the competition has been so far (no I’m not gonna tell you whose in the lead though!)
- 133 voters so far, including 105 registered voters
- These 133 voters have cast a total of 8301 votes so far (an average of about 62 each)
- Each of the 105 blogs has received between 58 and 122 votes (and don’t forget, each vote is a visitor to the blog)…that’s an average of about 79 each
- 46 blogs’ scores (43%) are within 0.5 of the leader (scores are on a scale from 1 to 5)…so it’s still anyone’s game
More than a few people have asked me if there’s a way to go and vote for 1 specific blog. And the answer is, no there is not. Blogs appear in a semi-random order and you have to give each a rating between 1 and 5. With 105 blogs and 14 days of voting, that’s only 7.5 per day. And if you register first, the system will keep track of which ones you’ve already done. This was done to keep this competition a quality contest, and not just a popularity contest (even though the two are often at least correlated).
