Introducing Kevin… : Site News

July 30th 2007 · Posted by Bobby Griffin · Comments

Since I decided to reformat Bestest Blog here, and launch the start ups of Blankest Blank and Fechr, I have referred in passing to a person I had working with me named Kevin. Well, now that the new and improved Bestest Blog is up and running, I think it’s high time that I introduce Kevin.

Kevin and I have been friends for a VEEERY long time. We met in 7th grade (1995) and have been friends since. Wow, that’s half my life, I didn’t even realize it was that long until I just typed it out. We went to the same middle school and high school in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and then completely by chance lived about a half hour away from each other, a state away in New Jersey (until about a month ago).

We both had a strong interest in computers as teenagers, and these three sites are not the first project we’ve worked on together. A lot of the sites we made in high school have been taken down, but I was able to find this one. It’s a team site for an online paintball game we used to play (I am Compeler and Kevin is Respector within the list of players). As you can see we’ve come along way since 2000. And to preempt your questions…yes I did scan that can of Cherry Coke with my own scanner (Google images didn’t exist yet!)

Kevin graduated with a degree in Music Business from Marywood University in 2005. Today, Kevin still lives in NJ (though I have moved to Maryland). He works as an office manager at a performing arts studio. He’s engaged to a lovely girl named Angelica and they are very busy planning their October wedding (in which I’ll be a groomsmen…we’ll be sure to post pictures!)

Back to web sites…Kevin is much better in the design aspects of things (which you can see by the fact that my Blogspot Bestest Blog template was not at all assisted by him). It’s also been great to have a partner to bounce ideas off and vice versa. Kevin will also be joining Bestest Blog here as a regular poster (hopefully I can convince him to get something up later today). [side note: this is particularly good news for any of you who were frustrated by how much PayPerPost I was doing at my old blog since PPP does not allow blogs with multiple authors]

So, please welcome Kevin into the Bestest Blog community!

so are you just going to let the old bestestblogofalltime.blogspot just fade away?

Unfortunately yes…I regret taking a free blogspot blog as far as I did, because it really hindered me. If I had known about Word Press 1 year ago, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

I have a question regarding fechr. Why is it that your saying it’s a start up when the archives for it go back to 2006 and the author of the blog is a girl named Lisa.
I’m confused about that. can you clarify.

Every day on Fechr.com, there is a new featured site. The site by Lisa you are referring is the featured site of the day. That site changes on a daily basis.

Welcome Kevin. Really like the templates you’ve made.

Bobby, what was wrong with Blogspot?

One of the main problems for me (and for 90% of people out there this won’t matter at all) is the lack of ability to edit the code of files directly. Plus, without the ability to add PHP/MySQL coding, I could have never automated a directory like I have at Blankest Blank and Fechr. WordPress just has so much more freedom and functionality, and for me that’s very important.

This site looks way better than the blogspot one. I can see who has all the “style” in this friendship. ;)

A paid blog always looks a lot more professional job than blogspot. Great looking blog!

Oh, yes. Having your own domain makes you look more professional. People will be more likely to take you seriously.

Well, I had my own domain before, but it was just a masking for my blogspot hosted one. I hated blogspot because I couldn’t upload any files to the server! Not even a simple javascript file!

Livejournal is the same way. I miss my friends there that didn’t follow me to my domain but I don’t miss having so few options.
